Boston Overnight

We originally planned to make a trip to the Cape to celebrate the end of school.  BUT then we remembered that our friend Julie is throwing her husband a 40th pub crawl on Saturday.  We needed to be home for that and we needed to be rested.  So we decided to do something different and rent a hotel.  This worked out even better because Jay didn't have to use precious vacation time and we got to tour the city.

Grammi agreed to watch Nate who may have tipped the scales in the sleeping-in-one-hotel-room area.  Phew.

We also planned to make the trip a surprise but Jack wouldn't rest on guessing until he got to the bottom of it.  Apparently he does not like surprises...I don't know where he gets that from?  He has known for about a week we were doing the overnight.  Remy, who apparently does like surprises, did not want to know the plan.  But the evening before we left, Remy agreed to find out.  The exchange between Jack and Remy went like this:

Jack "Do you want to know where we are going now?"
Remy "Okay, you can tell me."
J "A HOTEL IN BOSTON!!!"
R "Oh no, I don't like hotels.  They have bed bugs"
J "No, you are thinking of a MMMMMotel.  We are going to a HHHHHotel."
R "Whats the difference?"
J" A motel begins with an M.  It is all on one floor.  It has uncomfortable red carpet and bed bugs."
R "Does a Hotel have nice carpet?"
J "Really nice and soft."

That made Remy feel better and she started getting really excited too. 

I picked the kids up right from school on Wednesday and headed into our adventure.  They both agreed that they were too hungry to wait to eat until we got to the city so we stopped at a local Bertuccis for lunch.

Then we hit the Aquarium in Boston.

Then Jay left work and we all went for a Duck Tour.  Jack and Remy got to drive the tour on the river so they were super excited.  They also both enjoyed listening to "the funny driver".  Toward the end, it was apparent that both kids needed a bit of rest and dinner so we made our way to the hotel.

We cleaned up and walked in the rain to Legal Seafoods.  We got to sit near the fishing pond.  Jack got to order his "special occasion" root beer.

Then we hit up the 7 eleven for some snacks and went back to the room for a good old fashioned pillow fight and movies.

The next morning, we took a swim in the pool then had a nice breakfast buffet before Jay had to go to work. 

It was still raining but we decided to make the best of it.  Jack, Remy and I went to the Museum of Fine Art.  I wasn't sure if the kids would like it but it ended up being a big hit.  They loved looking at everything.  I had to rush them out because they had a birthday party to go to...so we'll have to go back again.

We got extra time with Jay, fun rainy day activities and lots of good food.  It was the perfect way to celebrate the end of school and to start the summer!
