Chicago- Vacation Part One

So we are still working our way backwards through describing vacation. We left Wednesday afternoon from Boston to catch our flight to Chicago. It was Remy and Nates first plane ride. Both were very excited.

As it turns out, Papa had last minute business to do in Chicago. He decided to book the same flight as us so we had an extra set of hands. We really appreciated that. If you know me well, you know how much I love not having to worry about the "zone defense".

We arrived in Chicago around 9:30pm then picked up a rental car. We were lucky enough to be able to stay at our friends, Steve and Christys, place in downtown Chicago. They live in New Hampshire but have the place for business trips. We got to have the place all to ourselves! Which is especially great with a family of five.

Wednesday night after we got settled, Uncle Bri rode his bike over to visit with us. In the morning, we got to meet up with Auntie Molly and Uncle Bri before they had to go to work. We had breakfast at a delicious place a few blocks away. Nate got to try his first lick or two of ice cream...big hit.

While Auntie Molly and Uncle Bri went to work, we hit the Lincoln Park Zoo. Remy was impressed with the healthy options they had for lunch (turkey sandwich, carrots and apple slices)...Jay and I were impressed that we could drink a beer outside without being in a restaurant. We all got a big kick out of a squirrel who dove into a trash can and came out eating a french fry. It ended up being Jack and Remys favorite part of the zoo but we saw a lot more animals too.

After the zoo, we hit the American Girl store. Daddy bought Remy a "Just Like You" doll. She stressed at first on the name but then came up with the "perfect" one. Molly. (This is not the first namesake for Auntie Molly. Remy also has a horse Molly named after Auntie Molly.)

We also went to a few other stores and Jack picked out a Chicago Cubs bear. We were exhausted from shopping after that so we made our way back to Steve's. Papa and Uncle Bri met us back there and we got some local Greek take out. Auntie Molly had school:(

On Friday, Auntie Molly and Uncle Bri took off work and invited us to their place for breakfast. We had a delicious meal and mimosas. Remy made sure that Molly the doll, Molly the horse and Auntie Molly were all able to meet each other. The kids also all got to meet Ruby (the dog) for the first time. Ruby was a big big hit.

After breakfast, we went to the Chicago Childrens Musuem. It was so great there. They had tons of things to play on, climbing structures, things to build...you name it. After getting some energy out there, Auntie Molly and Uncle Bri took Jack and Remy on the ferris wheel. This was a great relief to me as I really dislike heights. Nate had a snack while Jay and I watched them go round.

The fun continued because for lunch we got to see our friend (and Mollys bestie) Johanna and her daughter Marin. They made a special trip in and we all met up at the Rainforest Cafe. The adults got fun drinks and Jack and Remy got fun light up cups. I was hoping that Nate would take the opportunity to purpose to Marin but I guess that is a few years down the road.

We were back to the car by around 4- which I remember because we did not get a famous $50 Chicago ticket- and headed back to Steve's place which has an awesome roof deck. We hung out there for a bit then got the kids to bed and ordered pizza take out. Papa met us for pizza and drinks when he got out of work.

On Saturday, Jay did a few home improvements for Steve as a small thank you then we went to see Uncle Bri and Papa. Ruby had really been hyping up the dog beach to the kids so we had to go there. Nate fell asleep on the ride over so he and I relaxed while Papa, Bri, Jay, Jack and Remy ran around with Ruby.

After that we scooped Auntie Molly up (who had been on a long run-bless her) and went to a fabulous Mexican place. We ordered up a few pitchers of Margaritas and some chips and gauc (which Nate couldnt get enough of)and lunch. There was a park across the street that the kids enjoyed after that.

Then we went back to Auntie Molly and Uncle Bri's place and hung out for awhile. Papa was nice enough to offer to give us a night out so we brought everyone back to Steves to get them ready for the night. Then Molly, Bri, Jay and I went to a restaurant called Market. Jay and Bri were mostly concerned with watching the Celtics game so Molly and I got to catch up on lots of stuff.

In the morning, we had to say our goodbyes:(. After we loaded up the car and cleaned out Steve's place, we headed to a cute bakery near Molly and Bri. We had breakfast together in the nice warm sun. Then it was time to hit the road before traffic got bad..so we had to leave. Very sad. We loved our Chicago portion of vacation so much!

But then we got to have fun in Cincinnati....
